Interest group on Access to Healthcare event, European Parliament, Brussels
The Patient Access Partnership (PACT) welcomes the recent joint Commission/OECD report entitled ‘Health at a Glance: Europe 2016’, which is part of the Commission’s current efforts to build a solid knowledge base as a resource for Member States in addressing challenges to their health systems. The report recognises that resources spent on ensuring better health outcomes should be seen as an investment – both with respect to the quality of life of patients as well as to society as a whole.

The Patient Access Partnership (PACT) actively contributed to the discussion on access to healthcare and organised a meeting of the MEP Interest Group on Access to Healthcare on 29 June. This event was jointly chaired by MEPs Karin Kadenbach, Andrey Kovatchev, European Patients’ Forum Secretary General Nicola Bedlington and PACT Secretary General Stanimir Hasardzhiev, and provided an opportunity for all interested stakeholders to discuss the future needs of healthcare systems.
Interest group on Access to Healthcare debate, European Parliament, Brussels
The meeting focused on the recent publication of the Preliminary Opinion on Access to Health Services by the Expert Panel on Effective Ways of Investing in Health. Expert Panel members presented the main findings of the report which was followed by a debate with decision-makers and stakeholders on the main problems highlighted in the report and the policy measures on national and European level to address barriers to access.

The meeting gathered together co-chairing MEPs, EC representatives, APAs, Health attaches and different stakeholders in health and aimed to promote synergies between disease specific and public health initiatives.

The event was hosted by MEP Andrey Kovatchev with a special opinion speech by Mr. Vytenis Andriukaitis, Commissioner of Health and Food Safety.
The conference was hosted by Dr. Andrey Kovatchev, MEP at the European Parliament, and organized by the Bulgarian National Patients’ Organization (NPO), with the support of the European Patients’ Forum (EPF).Attendees of the event were members of the European Parliament, EU health policy makers and experts, as well as patient and industry representatives.
